This policy explains what data is processed, and how, when you use 8mlia.com (Birth Lottery). The data controller is the 8mlia.com team. In short: you don't create an account, you don't fill in forms, and your game history stays only in your own browser. You'll find the details below. This text was prepared with Turkey's Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK) and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in mind.
What data we don't collect
The site has no membership, registration or contact form. We don't ask for your name, email, phone number, address or payment details. The character in the game is fictional and doesn't represent a real person.
Data stored in your browser (local storage)
Your game history, passport stamps, daily streak and the nickname you type to appear in challenges are kept in your browser's local storage (localStorage). This data is not sent to our server and we have no access to it. When you delete site data in your browser settings, it is deleted too.
Challenge links
When you create a challenge link, your character's starting seed, the nickname you typed, your score and the number of years you lived are written into the link itself. This information is not stored on our server; it is only read in the browser of the person who opens the link. You decide who to send the link to. You don't have to use your real name as your nickname.
AI story feature
If you press the "Turn my life into a story" button at the end of a game, details about your fictional in-game character (character name, country, age, event texts and badges) are sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude AI service, and a short story comes back to you. The information sent belongs to the fictional character; it does not include your name, your email or any other personal data of yours. If you don't press the button, nothing is sent.
To prevent abuse, this feature keeps a temporary counter tied to your IP address. The counter is kept for at most 24 hours and is deleted when that time is up. How Anthropic processes data is governed by its own privacy policy. AI-written text can be wrong or odd; don't treat it as a source of information.
Shared lives and memorial pages
After you finish a life, if you press "Save and share on the wall", the fictional character's details from the game (character name, country, gender, age, occupation, cause of death, score, starting seed) and the words you wrote are stored on our server and shown publicly on the site. Words you leave on memorial pages are public in the same way. Do not write your real name, contact details or anyone else's personal data in these fields. To prevent abuse when lighting candles, leaving words and reporting, a one-way salted hash of your IP address is kept; the IP address itself is not stored. If you want your post removed, write to liamedia@tik4k.com with the link to the memorial page.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see visit statistics. Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as page views, approximate location (country and city level), device and browser type, and which page you came from. This data helps us improve the site and doesn't identify you directly. The data is processed by Google; you can read how Google processes it in its partner sites policy. To turn off Analytics on all websites, you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. User-level data in Analytics is retained for 2 months, which is Google Analytics' default setting.
Google AdSense and ads
The site may show Google AdSense ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads, and these ads may be personalised based on your interests. You can turn off personalised ads at adssettings.google.com. How Google uses data is explained in Google's partner sites policy. We don't share your personal data with advertisers.
Cookie consent
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you give consent. The consent window is shown through a Google-certified consent management platform. If you don't consent, these cookies aren't used and the game works exactly the same. In other regions, these cookies are on by default; you can delete or block cookies in your browser settings and turn off personalised ads at adssettings.google.com.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Hostinger. As with any web server, when you make a request, your IP address, browser information, the page requested and a timestamp may be written to server logs. These records are for security and fixing technical problems, and they are kept for a limited time under Hostinger's own policy.
Fonts
The fonts on our pages are loaded from Google Fonts. When that happens, your browser connects to Google's servers and your IP address may be visible to Google.
How long data is kept
- Local storage data: in your own browser until you delete it.
- Challenge link data: not stored by us.
- IP counter for the AI story: at most 24 hours.
- Analytics data: 2 months, Google Analytics' default setting.
- Server logs: according to the hosting provider's policy.
Third parties
We work with the following service providers in connection with your data: Google (Analytics, AdSense, Fonts), Anthropic (story feature only) and Hostinger (hosting). These providers may process data on their own servers, some of them outside Turkey and the EEA. These transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses and similar safeguards.
How to exercise your rights
Under Article 11 of the KVKK and under the GDPR, you have the right to find out whether your personal data is being processed, to have it corrected or deleted, to ask for processing to be restricted or to object to it, to get a copy of your data and to withdraw your consent. Since we don't keep user accounts, most data sits only in your browser anyway, and you manage it yourself. If you have another request, just write to liamedia@tik4k.com; we'll reply within a reasonable time. If you're not satisfied with our reply, you can file a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Authority in Turkey or with your local data protection authority in EEA countries.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If we become aware of personal data from a child under 13, we'll take the necessary steps to delete it. If you're a parent and notice this, you can write to liamedia@tik4k.com.
Changes
We may update this policy when we add a new feature to the site or when the law changes. The current version is always on this page; the date at the top shows the latest change. If there's an important change, we'll announce it on the site.
